Being known for my amazingly sweet tooth, of course I have
visited B&P a few times. Each time I was impressed with the beautiful
collection of cakes and sweets they have on offer. Each time I just want to have
a taste of everything – sadly this goal has yet to be achieved – but I know
there will definitely be many more visits to come...
The studio itself is pretty incredible – with walls lined by
flasks containing strange looking ingredients, and an open view into the
kitchen itself, for me it brings to mind Willy Wonka’s lab, only more awesome.
Their selection of cakes for the day are displayed within
the front glass counter, while other goodies are scattered on the shelves and
table tops surrounding the space – including chocolate blocks, sauces and
spreads, lolly pops, meringue clouds, and ice-cream.
At $9 per dessert, they’re not exactly cheap (hence I can’t
buy one of everything), but when you consider the sheer number of elements contained
within each creation, this price is worth it. The hardest part is deciding what
to get...
The following are some cakes I’d tried on various visits
(apologies for the dodgy photo quality):
Mango, milk chocolate,
ginger cake:
milk chocolate &
mango cream / coconut meringue / Jamaican ginger cake / mango cream / milk
chocolate sponge / mango custard / chocolate gingerbread teddy
Smoked white choc,
coffee, aniseed, lemon:

cream / crunchy almond meringue / coffee buttercream / coffee sponge / aniseed
syrup / brownie sponge / lemon curd / dehydrated choc rock
Pineapple, mango, chocolate
(gluten free):
Coconut sponge / mango

pineapple jelly / mango jelly
Explosive raspberry
milk chocolate:
Rasp & milk choc
mousse / raspberry custard / raspberry compote / explosive milk choc chip
cookie crumb / exaggerated raspberry cream / raspberry marshmallow / milk
chocolate mirror glaze
Coconut, passionfruit,
ginger, mint:
Coconut mousse /
passionfruit curd / coconut caviar / passionfruit jelly / salted oat &
ginger crumble / white chocolate mint wafer / ginger macaron / brilliant white
chocolate spray
Raspberry, white choc,
honey, lychee:
White chocolate &
raspberry mousse / raspberry & lychee jelly / muesli & honey nut sponge
/ raspberry & hibiscus jam / honey lychee syrup / exaggerated raspberry
cream / white chocolate velvet spray
Chocolate, mandarin,
salted caramel:
Kendari 60% chocolate mousse
/ Murray River salted caramel / burnt mandarin cream / St Clements marmalade /
aerated chocolate shortbread / chocolate mirror glaze
Mango meringue cloud
Just like lego (only
much more delicious) – special order:
Yellow (mango) / green
(lemon & lime) / red (raspberry) / blue (blackberry)
Although each dessert is delicious in its own way, I
personally prefer the lighter, fruity ones over the rich chocolaty cakes. I’ve
also tried their chocolate blocks – the orange dark chocolate block is good,
but I like my chocolate darker. Their salted caramel spread is divine – I’ve
eaten it by the spoonful...
This is one sweet studio that every dessert lover must
visit. If Prahran wasn’t so out of my way, I’d probably drop in every week...
