Darac Grill & Bar: Straight out of a K-drama

An absolute gem hidden away on A’Beckett St. I really need to pay more attention to the eateries around this area – first Wonderbao, now this place which I’d probably driven and walked past numerous times and never noticed. It didn’t even look like a Korean restaurant from the exterior, but once you step inside it’s like being transported into a K-drama.
I loved the decor – all exposed bricks and warm timber, with homely looking photo collages adorning the walls, as well as cardboard animal heads...the place exuded a cosy vibe.

The food was very good. All the typical Korean fare plus a few Japanese options as well, all very tasty. Risotto Queen and I shared a soft tofu stew between us – it was only $17 and large enough for 2 people (with more left over), bargain. You know spicy Korean stew is done right when it’s hot and spicy but you can’t stop eating it, even as the sweat forms and your lips start puffing...I’ve since started to make my own Soondooboo Chigae at home, using silken tofu...
Agedashi Tofu
Spicy Soft Tofu Stew (for 2 people)
Tofu Salad Boul
Extra fried egg
Spicy Seafood Sausage Stew w/ extra ramen (for 2-3 people)
Beef Bibimbap
Tofu Bibimbap
Yakitori

Seafood Spring Onion Pancake
Service was what you’d expect from a typical Korean restaurant – limited English, but the staff were polite. There was a bit of confusion as to whether the cold tofu boul came with an egg or not – turns out it doesn’t, even though we were told it did. But they did offer The Vegetarian a free egg...except it was raw...but they then offered a cooked one for $1 extra (see above photo). She was still quite happy with her meal.
Definitely a recommendation from me – and I’ll be back soon, even if just to eat tofu...but very keen to try the other items too. A nice casual place, good for an informal (and cheap!) catch up with friends.

Ratings (based on my own experience, on this occasion):
Food – 8 / 10
Service – 6 ½ / 10
Value for money – 8 ½ / 10

OVERALL CONSENSUS: 4 bags (out of 5)

P.S. Another side note - check out the toilets...it's a bit odd...but I love their toilet paper dispenser (you'll see what I mean).
