Mixed Business:...A Great Business

Went to this cafe in Clifton Hill over the weekend – it was highly recommended by Risotto Queen and The Vegetarian, who’d stumbled upon it on their way to the airport!
It’s not an area I’m familiar with, but definitely one I’m planning to explore in the coming months!
We sat in the courtyard, because it was a beautiful sunny day.
Cappuccino
Long macchiato
Mocha
The coffee was good – I had a cap, then a long mac as well...though next time I’d try the mocha, as Chick Magnet’s mocha looked very appealing...
Organic sourdough toast with garlic peas, ricotta, slow roast tomato + lemon oil, with poached eggs
The whole menu looked very appetizing. My garlic peas and ricotta was recommended by The Vegetarian, as she’d had it last time and said it was amazing – I really enjoyed it. The eggs were perfectly poached (I love eggs). And I think I'm becoming more and more of a fan of ricotta...
Free range poached eggs on sourdough toast with minute fillet steak, smoked tomato sauce, mushroom + greens
Do you have one of those friends who is extremely tiny (both in height and width)? And have you ever watched him/her eat their way through a large plate of food (quite rapidly) and wonder at the end where in the world it all went? She didn’t look any larger after devouring her toast and eggs with steak (and it was a LARGE serving)...if anything, she probably looked even tinier!  Oh how unfair how fast some people can metabolise...
And we were all so convinced she wouldn’t be able to finish her meal when it arrived, as well – we’d already commented on how good it is to have Chick Magnet and Flower Boy present, thinking they’d be able to finish it up for her.
Free range poached eggs on sourdough toast with potato + rosemary rosti, avocado + house relish
Tempted though she was to order the garlic peas again, The Vegetarian decided to try something else – settling on the potato and rosemary rosti, which was yummy (I had a bite of it).
Free range poached eggs on sourdough toast with smoked salmon, pickled beetroot, dill + creme fraiche
Chick Magnet went with the smoked salmon – I’m not entirely convinced he was full after this...
Ploughman’s breakfast – boiled egg, toast, vintage chedder, tomato, pickle + pork belly rillette
Flower Boy arrived late, and ordered the ploughman’s breakfast – it arrived looking awesome, but I don’t think he enjoyed it as much as he should have...due to an attack of the bees! They were buzzing around the table the entire time, but I think it became a lot more prominent once Flower’s chai latte arrived, with its honey combe...and then they took away the rest of our (empty) plates, meaning there was only his meal left on the table...which attracted more bees...poor thing.

We lingered for awhile to digest, but couldn’t leave without ordering the item on the menu that had caught all of our eyes, but no one was game enough to have it on their own...so it was shared between 5...
Ice-cream sandwich – grilled pineapple, dark rum maple syrup, toasted coconut ice-cream + pecans on brioche
The ice cream sandwich was very good, but definitely not something I would eat on my own...the one or two mouthfuls I got was more than enough...oh, so rich...

This cafe serves great food and coffee – if I was a local, I’d come here all the time.
